Tips For Visiting The Sunflower Fields This Fall

Happy ALMOST fall loves! We visited the Colby Farm Sunflower Fields in Newbury, MA this past week! There is nothing that screams fall more than those beautiful yellow flowers! We had never been to sunflower fields so we didn’t know what to expect! Below are some photos from the farm and a few tips for you if you’re planning a visit to your local sunflower field!

1. Wear Appropriate Shoes

Remember that these are fields! So the ground may be muddy and rugged. You might also have to walk a bit to get out to the field…so wear appropriate shoes! Leave your high heels and open-toe sandals at home!

2. Go At The Right Time

Last year I really wanted to visit the sunflower fields but by the time I had found one all of the flowers had already died! Most fields open up at the end of August or beginning of September, so keep that in mind!

3. Get Some Good Photos

This is a perfect opportunity to have some beautiful photos taken! We saw a lot of people having maternity, family, and engagement photos done! There are usually also a ton of local photographers that specialize in taking photos at the fields. Google it and you should find some in your area!

Or you can be risk takers like us and take your own photos! We just brought our tripod and remote and we were set! I would recommend going when lighting is best though! This will be either early in the morning or in the evening. Golden hour photos would be best! When taking photos in the fields, if the sun is too high in the sky, it casts some pretty hard shadows!

4. Take Cash

The Colby Farm Sunflower Field does charge $10 for parking and they only accept cash. I’m not familiar with other fields but I would check their website or Instagram page before going to make sure you know what to expect!

5. There Will Be Bees

Keep in mind that the field will be covered in bees! But if you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you! I definitely would say that if you do have a bee sting allergy, I would steer clear of this event! Especially if you will be walking through the flowers, the bees will be buzzing right by you the entire time!

I hope these tips helped! Thank you for reading this far! Have a wonderful weekend!
