My Postpartum Story

Hi mamas! I am so excited to add this postpartum series to my blog! I will be posting updates on my progress as well as give tips on what I do to lose the weight. I wanted to start off by giving you a few details about my postpartum journey with my first pregnancy and also where I am at right now after my second pregnancy.

My First Pregnancy

When I got pregnant with Lily I weighed 125 pounds (I’m 5’4″). I didn’t work out very much my entire pregnancy, but I did serve in a restaurant up until I was 35 weeks pregnant which meant I was constantly on my feet. By the time I delivered Lily I weighed 167 pounds. So I gained 42 pounds total! (At the time I thought it was so much weight, but it was nothing compared to my second pregnancy lol).

My labor and delivery with Lily left me extremely traumatized and the last thing I was thinking about afterwards was working out and losing the baby weight. So I didn’t start trying to get back in shape until Lily was three months old.

I lost 20 pounds in the first few weeks after delivery once all of the swelling from pregnancy went down. The last 22 pounds didn’t come off until I began a workout routine and eating well. I am not one of those people who can lose weight quickly, I have to really work for it! Within four months of sticking with my routine, I not only lost the 22 pounds but I also lost another 10 pounds on top of that (Lily was seven months old by this time). **I will stop here and say that even though I keep talking about “weight loss”, this is not something that I focused on. To me, I was all about trying to get back to my healthy lifestyle and be fit and active again. I am just speaking in terms of weight in case anyone is interested or wants to get a good idea of the transformation that happened!

My Second Pregnancy

We “gender swayed” with Luke. So in the few months before we tried to conceive our second baby, I changed my diet. I ate a ton of protein and put on some weight. When I got pregnant with Luke I was once again 125 pounds. During his pregnancy I stopped working out at about 23 weeks pregnant because I was having so much pain in my pelvis from all of the extra weight. On the day I delivered Luke I had gotten up to 187 pounds. I gained 62 pounds this pregnancy!

I felt absolutely amazing after my delivery with Luke! As soon as Luke was born I started eating extremely clean. I literally was eating nothing but salads during our stay in the hospital! I began walking on my treadmill at about three weeks postpartum (after getting this cleared with my OB). I once again lost 20 pounds in the first few weeks after all of the swelling went away. Now at eight weeks postpartum I am working out a few times a week, trying to take it slow but also stay consistent. So far I’ve lost another 13 pounds on top of the 20. I am currently weighing 154 with 29 pounds of baby weight still sticking around.

Right now I am enjoying my brand new baby! I’m not obsessing about the extra thickness here and there on my body. My goal is to be healthy again and have fun being a mommy of two 🙂
