DIY Baby Mobile

Hey guys! I wanted to share with everyone a simple baby mobile that is quick to make but super cute in any nursery! I have also been getting asked a lot about where I got my baby hammock…it is by Natures Sway, a New Zealand based company. I had read so many great reviews about it so I decided to purchase one and I am really excited to start using it! I will let you all know if baby likes it once he gets here (hoping that is soon!). Now let’s get to the mobile!

I have really been loving the minimalist look when it comes to our nursery decor so I wanted to make something for the hammock that would dress it up in a minimal way. Here’s how I did it!

Supplies You Will Need:

  • Felt Sheets
  • Wooden Beads
  • Cotton Embroidery Floss with Embroidery Needle
  • Sewing Thread with Sewing Needle
  •  Scissors
  • Pom Poms
  • Chalk
  • Cotton

I first folded a felt sheet in half and then used my chalk to draw a crescent moon shape. Once the moon was cut out, I began sewing.

I decided to sew the felt pieces together by hand because I wanted it to have a “handmade look” to it. I also used white thread so that you could see the stitching. If you want a cleaner look I would use a sewing machine and thread that matches the color of the felt.

Once I had sewn the majority of the moon, I stuffed it full of cotton.

Then, I finished sewing!

I took another piece of felt and did the exact same thing except making star shapes this time. Trace with chalk, cut it out, sew the felt pieces together, stuff with cotton, and finish sewing it up.

I then went in with my embroidery thread and started stringing together the shapes in the order I wanted them to hang. This is also where I added the pom poms into the mix.

Here is the final result!

I also did another mobile using the wood beads and black felt to give you an idea of other ways you can get creative with it.

Disclaimer: I would not leave baby unattended with either mobile. Both the pom poms and wooden beads could be choking hazards if they were to fall off the string.

I spent $6 on material and was able to make TWO mobiles. It is always cheaper if you DIY!
