My daughter has been obsessing over mermaids lately so I knew with her birthday coming up that mama needed to deliver! Her outfit is from Carken Design, you can find them on Instagram or Etsy, they have the absolute cutest mermaid costumes.
Back to her mermaid crown…to start off, I purchased two bags of seashells from the Dollar Store and the headband, styrofoam ball, and starfish were from Hobby Lobby. The pearls and silver jewelry were from some old necklaces that I had.
I began by slicing the styrofoam ball into 5 pieces. I then cut a piece off the bottom of each styrofoam slice so that they would lie flat onto the headband. I used my glue gun to glue all 5 pieces onto the top of the headband.
I took my seashells, pearls, and starfish and glued them on top of the styrofoam in random order.
I then grabbed a huge starfish that I wanted to use as my center piece and bedazzled it with pearls and an old rhinestone choker that I never use anymore.
Yay everything is glued on!!
I ended up needing to glue on some ribbon to the bottom of the headband because the crown was so heavy once my daughter put it on. Also, I used a ton of bobby pins to keep it from shifting around on her head.
I spent $13 on this crown which was SOOO much cheaper than anywhere I could find online. It is always cheaper if you DIY!
